The Musée de la Gaspésie is proud to be actively committed to sustainable development, integrated into all levels of its activities. Whether it's conserving its unique heritage, implementing eco-friendly practices in its daily operations, or raising public awareness through its exhibitions and educational programs, the museum is making every effort to contribute to a future that respects the environment and future generations. This commitment reflects our desire to preserve and promote the cultural and natural wealth of the Gaspé Peninsula while adopting innovative and sustainable solutions.
The Musée de la Gaspésie adopts the principle of the circular economy in several of its initiatives. We reduce our consumption of raw materials as much as possible by favoring the reuse, repair, transformation, and donation of equipment or materials. In addition, we favor deconstruction over demolition, with the goal to recovering and preserving resources. This is the case for the permanent exhibition (photo on the right), which was deconstructed and all the materials were donated to the community

The Musée de la Gaspésie strives to reduce its environmental impact by prioritizing local purchasing, optimizing transportation, and choosing eco-friendly or sustainable materials whenever possible. We also limit the use of single-use products and implement training to raise staff awareness of the importance of eco-friendly practices and eco-design. A concrete example of eco-design is illustrated in the photo on the left: the exhibition modules were designed to also serve as transport crates for artifacts. An ingenious two-in-one!
At the Musée de la Gaspésie, we place paramount importance on balanced and inclusive human resources management. Our collective agreement reflects this commitment by offering advantageous working conditions, such as group insurance and a pension plan, which value our employees and support their well-being. In addition, we adopt a participatory management model that allows each team member to actively contribute to the museum's decisions and directions. This approach fosters a collaborative, respectful, and stimulating work environment, in harmony with our cultural and community mission.

Magazine Gaspésie is also committed to sustainable development by contributing to the preservation of the region's intangible heritage. Rich, varied, and sometimes surprising, the history of the Gaspésie is recounted in all its particularities thanks to the pen of many contributors. Founded in 1963, the Magazine Gaspésie contributes to the sustainability of our intangible heritage, essential to sustainable cultural development and the enrichment of local communities. All printed on recycled paper!
The Musée de la Gaspésie also takes a proactive approach to waste management. Recycling, composting, and the recovery of batteries and wood are among the concrete actions implemented at the museum. By offering solutions adapted to each type of waste, we facilitate eco-friendly actions and encourage good practices.

The Musée de la Gaspésie adopts rigorous practices to optimize its energy consumption. We ensure that lights are turned off in unoccupied spaces and limit the opening of exhibitions when the public is not present to avoid unnecessary energy expenditure. Our windows are equipped with anti-heat loss films, which improves the building's energy efficiency. In addition, we optimize the use of our digital infrastructure by reducing computer storage space. Air conditioning and heating management is also carefully regulated, adjusting to actual needs to ensure reduced energy consumption.
